Low compression and low oil pressure

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
The timing chain is loose on my 2004
Chevy Cavalier and it can be replaced but
the mechanic just said the compression is
low and oil pressure is low. Will those be
better when the chain is
replaced/repaired? If I have the chain
replaced will the car run normally?

Chances are the head gasket is blown and oil pump may be bad, and those aren't going to improve with a new timing chain. You can always get a second opinion. How many miles are on the car? If it's excessive may just want to move on to another car. Sell this one as a mechanic's special or for parts.
Ask your freaking mechanic.

Dear Bob, wow why didn’t I think of that?? It must be because I’m a woman!!! Honestly if you have nothing to contribute then why are you even on this site in which people ask questions and some people ( other than you) actually know what they are talking about!!! So with that said do not respond to any of my future questions because you obviously couldn’t answer a question about putting together a model of a car.
Tracey, most of us here are not mechanics. You are already talking to a mechanic and now you are making a downgrade and asking a bunch of people you don't know that may or may not have any specific knowledge of the problem or may have limited expertise. The worst thing you can do when dealing with a mechanic is tell them what is wrong, which tests to run and how to repair the problem. If you do not have confidence in your mechanic, find another one. This has nothing to do with your gender.
