Why does my 04 Impala (Automatic) feel like its on 3rd shift when I have it on D

Asked by laloh1987 Dec 19, 2012 at 03:56 PM about the 2004 Chevrolet Impala FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

About 2 months ago, I drove my Chevy impala up a mild steep road and I changed it from D to 3rd gear to get more power. I immediately noticed the change in the sound of the engine. However, when I changed it back to Drive, I still heard the same engine noise. Now my car wastes more gas and it feels like my engine is being over-worked or something. Why does the car sound and feel like its on 3rd shift when its only on D? Any answers would be appreciate it
