My 1997 280c Mercedes will not go into park

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My mechanic called and said he played with it and it came lose and the gear shift just
flops! Wow what did he do wrong!!  Said he would work on it! Sounds like he broke
something! He was recommended by the place I bought the car, sounds like a back door
Mechanic!!  Now I'm thinking should i have my car towed out of there, and  take it to
another garage!!

What did you take your car in for to begin with? Something to do with shifter or something else? The linkage has broken or come apart.."playing with it" might mean just moving the car and wiggling the shifter, or test driving and when some, not all, but some-- mechanics treat other peoples cars like toys and mistreat them. But again, the shifting linkage has come apart or broke apart and if it was ok when you took it there if he does not promise IN WRITING to fix it free, DO get it out of there. I don't believe it coincidence

And if you do decide to take your car don't pay a dime. He may give you a hard time on that..but it all reverts to my first question: was there something wrong with the shifter when you brought it in?
