i had filled my tank with fuel then after driving fo a while my check engine light came on. I took the car to where i had bought it and told me the light came on because i did not tighten the gas cap enought. Does this make any sence

Yes, if you cap is not tight it will through a code. retighten the cap and the light should go off if not, get the code read (not erased) and go back to them with it.
It will set a code for the evap system. Just leave it alnoe, it will automatically turned off and ereased.
Your gas cap probably says "Tighten past 3 clicks." This is exactly why.
Yep, it triggers an evap leak code!!!
i'am getting a P0496 code on my 2004 trailbalzer , is this the purge valve, and is located under the engine cover ? Thanks.

I have the same reason / the check engine light and turn off in 3 days ... it is repeated every 2 weeks light and turn off again I don't know the exactly reason ?
Finally my engine light off on my 07 trailblazer 4.2 after buying 3 purge valves and 2 gas caps from autozone that was the problem buying parts from them one gas cap from NAPA and a purge valve did the trick thanks NAPA
tried to use advances lockable gass cap caused chek lite on! went back 2 old cap, prob contiues! never use replacement cap ever thats wat caused the problm! never had prob b4 that! damed advance china garbage! always by ome! save ur selfe a ton a agrivation
