ABS and bigger tires

Question type: Car Customization

What is required on a 2004 Chevy TrailBlazer LS 4WD to ensure the ABS cadence won't get thrown off if you put on a bigger tire.  I am going from 245/70R16 to some BFG All-Terrain 265/75R16.  Plus a 2 inch lift.  Any info would be appreciated.  Thanks.

I think you'll be ok actually and not have to do anything. True, you're increasing the width 20MM BUT, that isn't a huge margin. The 75 profile increase is merely a metric equiliventt to the 70; again, little change. What generally creates problems with tire/rim upsizing is when you go with a larger rim. As a rule, one should never increase more than two inches above the factory installation. In your case, an 18" is the largest you should considershould your lift require it. This equates to more steel on each corner and a LOT more rubber, considerably more weight. In extreme cases, 20" or larger, brake upgrades are HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! More weight on each corner of the vehicle increases your stopping distance. So, with your marginal increase in tire size, it's UNLIKELY the minor weight increase should matter. HOWEVER, you may want to contact a GM Brake Tech and inquire if the computer needs a re-calibration. IF HE SAYS "YES" check with another Tech; If two Techs say the same thing, maybe you'll need to. If I were in your shoes, I simply wouldn't be concerned; safety wise, you didn't change anything dramatically. I hope this helps you!

That's your hard earned tax dollars at work. I learned a lot while in the Army. Hey, report my comments as helpful to CarGurus, maybe they will hire me as a consultant?

I dont have and answer but a question in the same category ....just got a 2004 trailblazer from the auction. And I hate the low profile tires that are on it. Mire than i hate the vehicle itself (I'm a big truck silverado type gal ....) anyway bc it's from the auction there isnt my h info on upgraded and additions and standard...but I'm sure these tires aren't standard..what I need to know is what it's going to take for me to put different "normal" to bigger tires on. I've been told the rim's that are on it are actually expensive. But I hate rhem.
