Strange hiccup on Mercedes 320 SLK clutch.

Asked by HelpMe2 Apr 17, 2013 at 06:15 PM about the 2001 Mercedes-Benz SLK 320

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Bought used. 35K miles. Manual transmission. Have driven car for one week. Great response. This evening, pressed in clutch to engage 1st gear at take off from stop light. Heard a clunking noise and clutch remained at floor. Could not shift in to any gear. Slid toe of foot under clutch and popped it back up. Was then able to engage gear. Uneasy at this point. Any thoughts about what I should look for as potential problem(s)?

Check your fluid in the clutch master cylinder reservoir. It could be a fluke, it could be going bad. Keep track of how often it happens. -- My clutch pedal has done that about once a year for the last five years.

Could be the fingers on the pressure Plate are almost gone from the clutch pedal being ridden. Bearing might have bypassed the remaining nubs.
