2002 SLK230 convertible rattling noise

Asked by PH2 Aug 02, 2014 at 01:59 PM about the 2002 Mercedes-Benz SLK 320

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I'm looking at buying a 2002 SLK230 convertible (60K miles).  Took it for a test drive - the
hardtop rattles and is somewhat loud. Took the top down twice and put it back to make
sure it was closed properly, but the noise continued. It hasn't been consistently driven in
4yrs, so the owner can't recall when the noise started. Could it be that the top needs
lubrication due to lack of driving or is it a bigger issue?  Thanks for any feedback!

Have it looked at by a Mercedes mechanic. It could be nothing more then a simple adjustment or a real big headache.

Have the same problem, (will do the same as suggested) as my 230 SLK (2002) rattles badly on a bumpy road. Did you find the problem.
