Got issues... Lots of issues

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hello,  I have a 2003 Chevrolet Blazer 4x4 V6 4.3L, and I have issues.

First issue is some days it won't start, I put the key in turn it to start it and
everything blacks out.  Now my battery is drained out.  It is a brand new
Interstate (2015).

Other times it starts up fine, and yet other times it starts and stalls out, I
have to keep pressure on the gas to keep it running. I have to keep doing
this even when I'm trying to put it in gear.  I've bought a new fuel filter, and
will be installing it this weekend.  But how likely is it that my fuel pump is
going out?

Also when I bought this thing, there was a wire that was supposed to be
plugged into the power steering pump, but wasn't.  Is there an issue with
that plug that could be related to all this?

I don't know much about electrical, except that it hurts when you get
zapped.

The wire thing is a trick to disable the power steering sensor, the one that feels you start turning the wheel and kicks on the pump, this system notoriously begins to fail after about 10 years. Disabling the feature only makes it so the power steering pump runs all the time, which is fine, not hurting a thing. The battery problem may be a loose connection... can you move the cables on the battery? do the terminals slide around the post? or is it snug? if snug.. then maybe the alternator out or going out.... not having proper voltage can make the motor want to die.... go to a battery place and just have them test the battery and alternator, should be a free test... if you dont trust anyone to do the test.. I think walmart sells a battery/alternator tester for 10 bucks.... Luckily for you, the battery, if bad, should be warrantied, and if its the alternator, its a very common part and should cost less than $200 to replace (parts and labor). good luck!
