2003 cavalier with check engine and trac off light on

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2003 cavalier with the check engine and trac off light on. Also the radiator fan turns on as soon as the car starts and stays on as long as it is running. The code for the check engine light is for an intake air temperature sensor. I replaced the sensor, but the code is still there. I also read that it may be the ECT. I replaced that today, but still have the issue. Also, with the trac off light on, the car shifts hard (like the car is in safety mode or something). Car idles a little bit higher and still runs at normal temperature. MPG did drop about 2-3 miles per gallon. Any ideas???

I'm having the same issue with my cavalier. It's 2003, 191k miles. Trac off light and check engine light are on and it's giving me the same code. I changed the air temp sensor and changed the air filter. Have you found a solution to this?

Me too! I just bought my 2004 cavailer. Seems to still run and sound great. The trac light has stayed on the just recentl5the check engine light came on. Took it to auto zone and they said the exact same thing was showing up..but also said any thing with past history even if resolved and fixes will still show up. I'm staying hopeful. Has anyone figures out how to take care of it

take the center console out and check the wiring to the parking brake, kids spilled their drinks in it. may not be your problem but only reason i checked mine was because i knew that the trac off light would come on when the parking brake lever was lifted up even a little bit. i have also known the light to come on whenever the car was having a problem with the charging system.

I've heard that if you put the car in park and push down on the brake pedal 3 times it should go off. I think you're supposed to do that BEFORE you start the car but you can try doing it AFTERWARDS if the other way doesn't help!! GOOD LUCK!!
