Failure to start. Turn key and get either the 'click clic click' of the solenoid not engaging, or a single clunk and all the electrical goes dead.

Asked by Ertock Apr 03, 2014 at 04:21 PM about the 2001 Ford F-250 Super Duty XLT LB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The battery is new and tests good. Wiggling the ground wires seems to affect whether I get clicks or clunk. Truck was driven without incident an hour prior to not starting. Used a continuity tester on the wires leading to the firewall, got inconsistent results, but even with good continuity, the truck did not start. It appears that Ford no longer sells the negative cables for this vehicle. Any ideas on where to start my search?

Thank you for your answer. The battery is brand new, as are the cable ends. I will look more closely at the connections on the firewall.
