My car is leaking a reddish brownish oil I think in the front of the drivers side ? Also there was smoke coming from under the hood when I got out of the car ? Does anyone know what this could possibly be ?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2003 Chevy impala and My
car was attempting to over heat soI
had my boyfriend check it out and I
had brown sludge under the
thermostat cap .. He said I needed to
flush the cooling system which I did
and it appeared to be fine for a day
or two and then the thermastat in car
moved just a couple millimeters
above the average half way mark
while I was driving around the corner.
It went back down however so I
thought everything was fine but when
I parked my car shut it off the hood
was smoking and the front drivers
side was leaking some sought of oil I
think ? I have no idea about this one.

It sounds like you have a blown head gasket. Are there bubbles in the coolant reservoir when the engine is running?

blown head gasket looks like chocolate milkshake. The trans cooler could have ruptured in the radiator. How does your oil look and trans fluid. If they are taking coolant they will be a light color and/or the level will be higher.
