Gas tank /Evap connections

Asked by Sauli Aug 16, 2021 at 07:02 AM about the 1999 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra Coupe

Question type: General

I am trying to reinstall the gas tank on my 1999 Mustang Cobra SVT(4.6). On
the top of the tank, on the passenger side, there are 2 blue plastic
(ports/valves?) that I believe are part of the evap system. One port has two
openings, but only a line to one of the ports. I cannot find anything to connect to
the second port. Is that port open to the atmosphere?

There shouldn't be any open ports on an EVAP venting system. There still must be a connection that needs to be made. I would dig further.

Visit your local Ford Dealer and ask for a copy of the vacuum hose routing diagram for the EVAP system. Or visit a local repair shop that subscribes to All Data. They should be able to print out the diagram as well. Beginning 1971 (1970 in California) fuel systems were no longer able to be vented to the atmosphere. So something is supposed to be hooked up to that port. Hope that helps! Jim
