01 ford explorer put in 4 wheel drive kind of a jerking motion took it out and still having the jerking motion what could it be
I have a 2001 ford explorer sport trac I put it in 4 wheel drive today and was getting a jerking motion so took it out still getting a jerking motion

the oil level in the transfer case(s) is still determined by removing the plug and "touchin" the level with your pinkie~ add oil if it's low....then get the seal that is leakin' and have that one installed~
Are all 4 tires the same size/diameter? Did the Transfer case and Front Hubs disengage? Jerking Motion when? Steady speeds? Cornering? Because there is no differential action between the front and rear driveshafts, cornering on dry surfaces and/or mis-matched tires will cause binding in the drivetrain. You could try disengaging 4x4, rolling forward about 10 feet, the roll backward 10 feet, You should hear (but not always) clicking indicating the release of the hubs and/or front driveline. You could try turning the front driveline or each raised wheel with your hand to see if they are disengaged.
The roads were getting so covered so put the 4 high on all of a sudden it was like a jerking motion, tried to put it back into 2 wheel drive still doing it, it was almost like the 4 wheel drive wasn't kicking in but then was doing it in 2 wheel drive
