The repair place says that the mater cylinder needs to be replaced on my 2004 f150 heritage how would I know if there is a problem?

you would be loosing break fluid from it,it would be wet on the boster where it is bolted to,you could also have a leaking break line or a bad break cylender on rear breaks or a bad calaper on the front.
