ignition lock cylinder replacement
Asked by douglaswstokes Mar 17, 2016 at 03:50 PM about the 1994 Ford F-250 2 Dr XL 4WD Standard Cab LB
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I removed the old cylinder with ease, and making sure to not rotate the key in the new cylinder I inserted it. It locked into place, but will only rotate between 'on' and 'off', not ahead to 'start' or back to lock the column and remove the key.

I pulled the ignition switch, but the key still wouldn't rotate enough to remove the key.

Please explain the 'retime the ignition pinion and rack'.

Don't worry about it. I have to change out the whole column. Thanks.

The bearings were gone and the upper column was all eaten up from the lower bearing parts being ground around in there. There were even parts from an old upper bearing that were still inside after the upper bearing had been replaced. Chalk it all up for experience.

Do you have a diagram that details the bearings and related parts in the steering column?

I want to thank you again for all of your help. Can I ask you another question? What other models and range of years use the same steering column as me? (1994 f250) Need to know so I can find another one. Thanks, again.
