Sluggish acceleration

Asked by Zack Mar 05, 2019 at 03:35 AM about the 1990 Ford F-150 XLT Lariat SB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1990 F-150 with the 5.0 v8 and the
throttle feels very sluggish after 40 mph. I can
floor it and it don’t seem to accelerate like a
5.0 v8 should. I can also feel it skipping alittle
when just cruising. It also struggles to climb
slught inclines in the road even at 60+ mph. I
about have to down shiftabd run at 3.5k rpm
to even maintain a speed. Any ideas on what
the issue could’ve would help. (No check
engine light comes on)

Well tonight I stopped for gas and smoke started coming from under the hood, popped the hood. Checked all fluids. It’s all good. Never lost oil pressure. Trans is starting to slip when it’s cold but once it warms up it shifts and drives perfect.
