03 Venture overheating
Asked by Nickle1082 Mar 15, 2019 at 04:44 PM about the 2003 Chevrolet Venture LS
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
Have changed the water pump, thermostat, and
temperature sensor and bled the system very well.
But for some reason, it keeps overheating. Not
always, but maybe 50% of the time. I'm at a loss...

Any applicable trouble codes? How hot does it get in degrees F? Does the radiator fan work? If it's overheating, the fan should be running. Maybe combustion gasses in the coolant? Caused by a faulty gasket? Did you check coolant flow through the radiator, if possible, cool engine? If your radiator has a cap and you can actually see the coolant, sometimes, for testing. I leave the thermostat out and hook everything up. Make sure everything full of coolant, even on a cold engine the coolant circulation is instant when you hit the key, don't have to wait on anything to warm-up?

Are the cooling fan coming on ? Also the radiator fins may be clogged with dirt and bugs causing little to no air flow across the coils. Radiator may also be clogged try using a good radiator flush like Prestone super flush.

The fans are coming on about 50% of the time (I think). I will try that. Thank you!
