No power going to either fuel tank

Asked by Deanna Aug 09, 2016 at 08:55 AM about the 1994 Ford F-150 XLT 4WD SB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

No power to either fuel pump...my son thought the
1st tank fuel pump never worked cause the fuel
gage didn't move when he put gas in it...but on the
2nd tank the gage would move putting gas in...so
what would cause the gage not to work on one
tank but work on the other tank and if the first tank
fuel pump was working what could cause both
pumps go out or just the one which is the back
tank that is the one he always used....already
checked the fuel pump reset button and it was still
in...and there is a little canister under the center
part of the dash ... one can squeeze..kinda like
maybe pumping something or a primer...I don't
know...what could that canister be

You can use a pin prick probe on a multi meter to verify if voltage is getting to either pump. If no power, begin checking backward toward the power source.
