My truck is making a ticking noise
Asked by MrNelf Dec 29, 2014 at 04:37 PM about the 1995 Ford F-150 XLT LB
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
Got to work today and started hearing my engine tick, so of course I checked the oil and
saw I was low, filled it up and rode around just fine until I hit the interstate, still getting a
ticking noise after about 10 minutes of running. Sounds like it is coming from the front of
the motor toward the bottom, and ideas folks? It's a 1995 F150 XLT straight 6 manual
transmission. Want to say 3.6L engine, can't remember right off the top of my head...

Most likely a 4.9L Inline Six. One of Fords best engines ever made. How many miles on the engine? I'd suggest start pulling a plug wire off at a time while your truck is running to see if the tick goes away. May want to wear a glove so you don't get shocked. If there is no change in noise let us know.

Just had this problem taken care at the ford place. I went through 5 mechanics before ford figured out what the mechanic had done when he replaced my water pump. He had bent one of the brackets on the schroad that the fan sits on and when I stepped on the gas the fan was wobbling and moving around. My problem is finally gone after 4 months, it could have come loose and caused a lot of damage.

Haven't had any more issue with the ticking/knocking sound, have now discovered I have a fuel injection problem, which I'm not concerned about, getting it fixed this friday haha, thank you all for the comments though, not sure what caused it but it has stopped for now!
