why do i have to do to get my truck to run

after replacing a bad freeze plug my truck will not back up unless i use both
feet one on clutch and the other feathering the gas

Does it go forward ok? Usually backing up, it's idle speed, all you use is the brake. I realize you have a manual transmission. I'd check and clean anything that has to do with idle speed. How long since a tune-up? Any applicable trouble codes? Just my opinion.
