Charging of alternator

Use a multimeter to check the charging voltage at the battery. Maybe the gauge is inaccurate.

What does it read? Does the car start? If not, what are the symptoms (doesn't crank, cranks but doesn't start, clicks heard when trying to start)?

Alternator normal ape ration should output 13.5- 14.5Volts it low try to disconnect the negative terminal and if the car turn off it bad alternator
