I have a 1997 Ford F-150 cranks but won't start

Asked by Dbridge Oct 05, 2016 at 07:31 PM about the 1997 Ford F-150 STD Extended Cab SB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1997 Ford F-150 cranks but won't start. The truck had been sitting
for 3 years with a tank full of gas when I bought it. My mechanic said it
needed a new fuel pump and battery. He Replaced those and it still won't
start. It cranks but won't turn over... he's worked on it for 2 days and now is
telling me that the engine is locked up and I need a new engine. I'm not
mechanic but I didn't think the Infineon would crank if it was locked up and
wouldn't he know that immediately? I'm thinking I need a second opinion
before investing in a new engine.

If it cranks but doesn't run, engine is NOT locked up. Locked up means engine doesn't turn (crank). Try spraying quick start in intake see if start for a bit, if it does, you still have a fuel issue, if it still doesn't start, check spark at spark plugs

Fire that mechanic immediately, LOL. Get your truck outta there asap, and to someone who knows what they're doing. It ether doesn't have fuel or spark.

Sounds like the "mechainc" is throwing parts at the problem in an attempt to get it started. Throwing an engine at the problem will solve the no start issue if the problem is elsewhere, as I suspect. Hopefully he (or you) drained the three year old gasoline out of the tank completely. Since most gas individuals is an ethanol blend, I suspect the tank is loaded with water. by now.

Sorry, throwing an engine at the problem will NOT solve..........

Check your fuse fr your fuel pump..the fuse sets under the hood...Had this trick me and tricked me good!

if truck starts with battery charged and will not start after two days the battery is draining through the alternator.. charge battery, disconnect battery for two days then reconnect the battery if starts it appears the alternator needs replacing
