97 f150 just clunks when I start

Asked by Grumm May 12, 2018 at 09:17 AM about the 1997 Ford F-150 XL Extended Cab SB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My f150 would not start I replaced the starter and the positive cable (it was
sheered  off).  When attempt to start it gives a good clunk and stops.  Tried to
put a socket on the fly wheel to manual turn it it’s tight and won’t spin.

Will do, thanks for the quick reply. Gonna cross my fingers and wait till the temp drops a bit will update

Getting ready to do the plugs, but why would it sieze in the first place? All the fluids were good, and it was running the night before?

you'll find out if and when you tear it down , just make damn sure that's what the problem is ,without the compression it should turn by hand

Just to update I pulled the plugs and they were rusty, also got some water. So at some point the head gasket blew i’m Guessing. Wish I knew that before I took it home. Looks like a rebuild. Thanks for the tips though
