What would cause oil to be completely soaked in oil up past the plug wire

My 1997 ford f150 4+4 started misfireing and said it was the number 5 plug so i pulled it
and the socket was driping oil with oil when i pulled it out

Sounds like the rings on the number 5 piston are no good, letting oil past them.

It's time to replace the valve (cam) cover gaskets. They are leaking into the spark plug well.

Did you spill some oil down the side of the valve cover and onto the #5 spark plug wire causing a short? Replace the plug and wire, check the valve cover gasket ect. Make the unknown, known. Before spending a ton of money check the simple stuff.
