What causes oil to collect in the spark plug hole?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When changing spark plugs on my 2001 Ford F-150 triton 5.4L engine I
noticed oil collected in the spark plug hole before I pulled the old plugs. What
can cause this and will it affect engine running normal?

The oil could attack the coil boots and break them down so I would fix the leak.

Leaking spark plug well gasket that is part of the cam cover gasket set. Get it replaced. It will require removal of the cam cover.
