1997 F 150 Transmission

Asked by Guru96L1H2 Oct 21, 2022 at 04:44 AM about the 1997 Ford F-150 XLT 4WD Extended Cab SB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have an issue with my transmission, I can drive my truck maybe 1/4 mile and
then the transmission will stop working. If the truck is shut off and restarted it
will move again right away, but it repeats this over and over. If I crank it in the
morning and let it sit and warm I have to turn it off and restart it before it moves.
It is like the truck shifts out of gear.

This sounds electronic, could be TCM, the best thing to do is take to a transmission shop so they can run stand alone testing, that way they can tell if it is the transmission or an electronic problem.

What was going on when this issue first occurred? Around what speed were you going? Any sudden vibration, loud noises? If so, where’d it come from? Does any great work properly? If you’re suddenly losing power or momentum to the trans, odd are torque converter is going out.
