1998 Ford f-150 Passender side window issues:

Asked by FallStone21 Jan 23, 2017 at 03:53 PM about the 1998 Ford F-150 XLT SB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So about four months back my passenger side window stopped working. Before that the passenger window motor was actually running better than the driver side was so my assumption is that it's not the motor. I also don't think it's any of the switches because both the driver and the passenger switches don't work and I think they are independent(if I was told right) from eachother. So that leaves the wiring and the connector. Before I actually buy a connector and a wire I wanted to check to make sure my reasoning was sound with people who have experience with this. What do you think?

I'll explain. The motor in the doors is a DC motor. There is a positive side and a negative side to the electrical connection on the motor. If you hook up the motor one way, the motor turns to the left, causing the window to go up. If you reverse the polarity on the motor (switch the wire connections) the motor will run in reverse causing the window to go down. Usually power is supplied to other doors from the drivers side, but not always. If you want to check before throwing money at the problem, use a multi-meter and check for voltage being supplied to door switches. If you want to check the motor, remove it from the door and apply 12 volts to the electrical connection points on the motor. If it does not turn, it's bad.
