on my Ford 150 with 4.2L V6, when it is at operationg temp, if you turn on the heater/defrost it will blow hot air for about 10 seconds then go back to cold. any ideas on this? i'm thinking maybe a actuator or blend door issue?

Probably. The problem you speak of was common on vehicles where the a/c controlls worked off vacuum. I do not know if you vehicle does so or not. Turn on the a/c and let it begin blowing cold. Then switch the blower controls to defrost and see if the same thing happens.
