01 F150 wile driving all gages go crazy then it shuts off

have your battery checked and if thats good then the next thing is the alternator

Get the codes read. Could be battery, battery cables, battery ground or something else. Alternator could be bad not charging the battery. While it is running check the voltage at the battery, if it is 14.0 to 14.7 volts the alternator is okay. It should run fine for more than several miles if the battery is fully charged with a bad alternator.

Always thought it might be an eletrical problem. Has new battery. Alternator was checked at the Ford dealer. They said it was good. I will check the cables. Thanks

It is difficult for a shop to diagnose a problem if it cannot be replicated within the shop.

Oh yes Jimwks1. A relative just retired (age 63) from being a mechanic at a dealership. Stated he was fed up. Indicated the vast majority of problem entering the shop had to do with electronics. What broke the camel's back for him was not being able to locate the cause of a coil on plug problem even with the help of the dealerships large expensive diagnostic machine. He finally traced the problem to the circuitry having to do with the back up camera/television mounted in the center of the dash. That was it for him. Dealerships now need more young nerds in white lab coats than mechanics.
