My temperature gauge constantly moves once the car has warmed up. it moves
to the hot side after driving the car about five minutes and sometimes it moves

Cycling like that makes me think the thermostat is not functioning right but first check that the coolant level is okay. And those temperature extremes over time can damage the aluminum head/cast iron block engine the car might have, not sure.
