04 f150 shaking when accelerating

Asked by Zholcomb23 Dec 15, 2016 at 10:12 AM about the 2004 Ford F-150 FX4 SuperCrew 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have an 04 f150 with the 5.4 it's shaking when
accelerating but does NOT do it all the time..sometimes it
runs perfect. It is saying misfire on 1 or 2 cylinders and
something about system to lean. Anybody have any ideas
to what this could be? I have already changed all the
plugs, fuel filter, sea foam. Definitely not transmission..
engine light is on and will flash when it's doing it and then
just stay on and sometimes the light wil just go off all
together. PLEASE HELLLLP!!!

A misfire on a Triton engine is almost always a bad coil. It sounds like you have 2 bad coils. The codes will tell you which ones are bad. Never wash your engine as water gets down in the spark plug wells and shorts out the coils.

If your MAF sensor is not reading properly this could be the problem. The MAF sensor incorporates the IAT(intake air temp sensor) which the ECM uses to deliver the proper amount of fuel for the specific parameters. Have the auto parts store read the DTC for you before you proceed to keep from buying parts you don’t need and don’t just swap sensors because it could be wiring or as simple as a fuse or relay.

I have a 2006 with the same problem. No engine lights . Feels like something in the rear end but was told might be transmission. Still don't know. Only when i first start . Kind of shutters a little.

I vibrate when I hit and stay on 42mph I can push thru it but if I sit on it I vibrate. That is a shifting gear number 3/4 if I hit o/d it goes away (but as you know you can’t drive in that gear solely) that being said it’s not the trans check drive shaft play that is my problem. 2009 king ranch 250k and parts all original
