2002 Chev Malibu steering column won't lock, won't start

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
Car was parked, key removed. Would not start
again later. Upon inspection , the steering
column will not lock, and the starter only clicks
even with a fully charged battery. Tried the
shifter button and pushing it forward as posted
earlier with no results. Not seeing any light for
security at this point either.

Make sure battery connections are tight, could be bad starter,or on some malibus the iginition switch will cause this.
I bought the car from a friend, just spoke with him and the ignition was a problem when he owned it also. The ignition was replaced at some point, which doesn't mean it's not the problem, but it is newer.
im also having same issue i bought the car to turn into a front wheel racecar the sterring wheel shaft is very loose and lights and cluster flicker and flast then you touch the wheel also the ignition switch will not fully shut off does anyone know a way to bypass the key all together as i said its going to be a racecar i can fix the column with a race column but i would rather have no key
