My 2002 has 120000kms (75000miles) on it and I average 27MPG. I have the 3.1L V-6. I have never done the plugs. Oil changes and the heater resistor board and tires are all that I have done. Still runs like a top. Although I have heard some owners have reported bad mileage (12-17MPG). But I would recommend the Malibu. The two that I have had are/were great cars, mind you they are not "amazing" but for transportation and a car you can count on, I would recommend them.

Well air filters (I replace it every other oil change)

Might try a K&N air filter or a lighter weight of oil (5W30) which will improve fuel economy somewhat.

I have a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu LT . I drive to work 5 days a week and I refill my car every 2 weeks, so one tank of gas lasts 2 weeks. Only problem I have is slow acceleration in the 1st gear.
