Are my ABS wheel sensors active or passive? 2004 Ford F150 Heritage 2wd

Asked by papaphx Oct 16, 2015 at 07:01 PM about the 2004 Ford F-150 XLT Ext. Cab

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

ABS light is on and I'm trying to test to figure out if the problem is with the
wheel sensors. I sent the module to a lab to be rebuilt and when reinstalled
the light is still on.

The ABS system runs a self diagnosis every time the key is turned to the "on" position. It also is armed anytime the vehicle is in motion. When doing the "test" if it does not received input from any aspect it will illuminate the ABS light until the problem area is corrected. YOu can check each wheel sensor with a multimeter. May times I have discovered the problem is mud and crud cakes up on the sensor causing the malfunction.

Can you be more specific? What am I looking for when testing with a multimeter? I checked for ohms and the guage pegged all the way over. Not sure if that means there's a short or if the circuit is closed and working properly. Both sides gave the same result.

you will have to check for your make and model As I do not have access to all vehicles. Checking the resistance on on he module should measure about 1.5 ohms, if memory serves. But don't take that figure to the bank. Check the resistance with the ignition off.

correction. check the resistance on the module of each wheel.
