Asked by carmineaquino Jun 08, 2017 at 12:43 PM about the 2004 Ford F-150 XLT Ext. Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have checked for bad wires... fuses ...bad bulbs...
Can't be a door sensor because it doesn't happen from one door but all
doors. No dome...radio doesn't shut off when you open the door either.
Also no glove compartment light either...no chime when key in and you
open door.
Truck does not know when doors are ajar

Open a door and check for voltage at the dome light after the fixture is removed. Also, if the light has a switch attached, check for proper operation. Some switches can have three positions with not much travel between contacts. It could be it is not in the right position. Had that problem with a 2010 and that was the cause.

On the 4 door, there is a purple wire under driver's rear door plastic cover on the floor. Pull it back and you'll see the wire is corroded open. Cut away the corrosion and splice in a new piece of wire. Make it water-tight.
