One more question. One those cars that you talked about. Is that a direct bolt in if I swap it? Are the gears different?

They are identical except for an electronic speed sensor on the 'E'. All gear ratios the same with final drive 2.23:1 Have a look at this page: http://www.f150hub.com/trans/4r70w-4r75w.html

Whoa, I was way wrong, my bad. The final drive is 0.70:1 and Reverse is 2.23:1

So would the 4r75e works to replace 4r75w?

The 04 75w does not have notched center support for tss sensor

Therefore if u putting it in place of an E trans it won't work with out cracking the case open n changing center support

Even if a transmission bolts in the changes from year to year may mean that the CEL will always be on even if the transmission works. Electronically controlled transmissions need to be replaced with the exact same part number transmission.

Not a answer the problem I'm having is I have a 02 F150 FX4 with the 5.4 the trans is junk I found another trans which mine is supposed to be on the VIN you which is the 4 R 70 w and I can get a trans for a good deal that is a fa5 p - 7000 - h a wondering if it will work in my 02 FX4? Ive oftem found that provided ths bolt pattern is the same and the electronics can be told to accept this as if ir was your own. Then there is some room for some creativity. I mean how do you think the race car drivers do what rhey do? Not everybody likes to color between the lines. Example: My dad and little brother fot an Idea to put a 460 big block in a Montego 2 door coupe lol they had to set it down 3 inches and push it back 6 inches toward the firewall by the time I gor there they were troubleshooting the transmission. The car souldnt move so I said how hard can it be so we went to thw Libery lol and chexked out a real old school chiltens manual on an FMX ford tranny and yes its a monster too. Took the tranny out and completely apart every nut bolr screw and ballbearing and reassembled per thw manual. Car still wouldnt move so out it came again 2 hours faster this time. Replaced the trans pump and filled her up sitj fluid and nothing. Dang one more time 2 hours faster now down 2 hours start to finish. Nothing long about here somewhere us when i asked about the coolant lines and the cooler or their good. Me being somwhat sceptable at this point i posed the question tell me exactly where you got them? Oh ffom the junk yard down the street.oh so there infact was a dirt dobber nest im the coolant line for the transmission so last time for removal rhis made 5th rime in and out for a new pump and we had a spline issue on ths tailshaft so back to the junk yard and foumd a shorter tailshaft in a station wagon rhat bolted rifgt up i xix however have to cut down the drics shafr which if done properly and in the right location can be accomplished without a CNC. My point is never doubt a fedneck that doesent know it camt be done sometimes youll cind that in fact it can be done. It may mot be proper bur ill tell you that montego wasent touched by anythimg in three counties

@Thetroubledone - The police interceptors have a longer shaft and tale.. this can be adapted by any trans rebuilder. But you can swap the 4R70W/4R75W 4.6/5.4L 4x4 between the 04-08 (and some early production 09) 09-15 you'll be getting into an E... so just stay between 04- 08 and you're good to go.

The E and W seem identical but they are not.. while they share guts... they have different bolt in and plugs
