2006 F150 power loss

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
While driving my 2006 F150 up a small hill in the rain, it
began to chug , engine light came on, error message said
check gauges, then it just died. Started it back up, did the
same thing. Waited about two minutes, started it again.
Was able to drive a out 1000 feet then truck lost all power.
Not electical at all. Let truck sit for about 5 minutes.
Started back up and seems to be fine now. Anyone have
this happen to them as well? Any ideas? Thanks

You say not electrical, does that mean the problem is not electrical or that it had no electrical power when this happens
Sorry, typo. Should say no electrical power at all. Windows wouldn't work, blinkers were off, no radio, nothing at all.
Check the battery terminals both ends especially the pos lead at the solenoid that's where the fuse link are and bad connections are common. Just a note when you see the check gauges light on look really fast to see which gauge is bottomed or topped out I hunch it will be the amp gauge low that would indicate a bad connection, if it's the oil gauge check the engine oil now, if it's the temp gauge well you get the idea
Hello, thanks for the response. It was the amp gauge that was low. Plan to start at the terminals and go from there.
I hunch your alternator is going bad. Like short brushes.
It is now throwing a p0175 code and has shown a trans mission error message. Seems like that could be thrown due to the electical issue though.
Absolutely don't pay attention to any codes when you're having power problems unless they pertain to the battery or charging system
Update - replaced the alternator. It had seen better days and was actually cracked. Truck seemed to run fine after that. Got in it this morning drove about 3 miles and got the trans fault warning on the dash, overdrive error and now the wrench light is on. No check engine light though. I could feel the hesitation around 2000 rpms before the error occurred.
Before you do anything read codes then clear codes and disconnect battery for a while say about 5 mins, then start it let it learn to idle until warm then turn it off, wait for a half hour then road test while the trans and service lights reset. Take it from there.
