Asked by GuruX5XD9 Oct 05, 2018 at 11:07 PM about the 2006 Ford F-150 XLT Flareside 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2006 Ford F150 xlt , now the problem I
have is when I turn the lights on for night driving all
the exterior lights work fine. But the dashboard
instrument cluster and other part's like radio and
knobs for fan heater etc, they light , but are very
dim. When I try to use the dimmer switch , all it
does is turn on the interior cab light... Need help to
fix this problem.. Anyone got any advise..

Ok, brotherben I have to order the piece according to the local Ford dealer. Will update, when I get it and change the dimmer switch

Thanks Ed92626, just wanted to let you know that this truck year doesn't have the auto light functions and or sensor. Everything has to be turned on or off manually, including the fog lamps. Gonna try to upload a picture of the switch and dim/brightener wheel. After checking it out this is all one unit in which the switch has the relay for it to work. Just ordered it and waiting for it to come in.

I think they all do it. Very annoying and dangerous. Typical ford engineering. At night they are fine. Only dim when lights are turned on during daytime periods of low light as in fog or snow.

@GuruX5XD9, did the new switch and dimme wheel fix it? I have a couple of Ford’s with the same issue now. Only have seen this happen in the Ford’s.

I have a 2009 F150 with the same problem. dash lights dim to the point they are not visible when i turn on lights during daytime. I tried turning my lights on first, then starting the engine and the lights don't dim. Not sure if this set a program function but so far it works.
