can a 460 motor fit a F-250 transmision

The 460 (7.5L) was the last Ford Big Block, discontinued in 1997. The 5.8 L is the 351 small block, the biggest engine in the Windsor small block family. First put in the F 250 in 1977. Now that being said, I have to look around to see if it will mate with your transmission....and I need to know that, if it's even an automatic or manual NP 435 ...4 speed manual? Or what?

No it won't. If the motor was an older 351m it would, but a Windsor motor is different from the 385 series big block (which is the engine family the 460 is from)
Well there you go. Thanks for the info Markand Norma ..I did know they were different blocks but didn't know if bell housing bolt patters were same, not to mention the 460 being simply too much engine for your transmission to hold up to
the transmission is a 4 speed AOD
Find a 429 or 460 iron bell housing. some 390 motor mount"s a 390 clutch pack or 351m bell housing and your in buisiness!

460 to 460 is all a direct fit. The NP435, T18, T19, etc....ALL BOLT UP PROVIDED THE SHAFT IS 10 SPLINE AND THE LENGTH IS THE SAME. I just put a 85 460 into a 2000 super duty and a T18 from a 81 f150 6cyl and it works great. The np435, and T18 were all used from 1/2 ton to 1 ton trucks. The T19 was predominantly placed into heavy haul trucks like the 460 or diesel. As for what bellhousings fit..???? i got all this from a blown 460 truck. Direct fits with no mods: diesel fits diesel, 460 fits 460. The bolt patterns are damn close between 460 and diesel.

The NP 435 has major shift tower problems in that the buggers wear out prematurely and nobody has used parts!! I think you can purchase one new on EBAY but for a hefty price in my opinion. I found it cheaper to dump the NP435 and go with the T18 for just that reason and typically, the T18 is better overall anyhow.

When installing an E4OD to ...well anything, there will likely be an issue with the speed sensor signal to the tranny ECM. I am a pretty good wrench but found the pulse signal for any given speed was different from the signal in the donor vehicle, thus confusing the ECM, resulting in none, late/early, harsh, or freewheeling shifting problems. My remedy: bypassed the ECM alltogether and installed switches on the dash for 1,2,3, and OD/torque converter lockup(which is 4th gear). I used this combination for a long time until I came across the 460 and 4spd setup. Im into my conversion about $200, not including all the labor. Luckily for me, ford used the same Transfer Case splines and bolt pattern for many years and my 2000 super duty NP273 electric shift bolted right up to the 1980 T18 tranny. The E4OD is a rather finicky transmission in my opinion with piss poor gear ratios for heavy towing. The valve bodies stick a LOT and cause excessive shift problems. I steer clear of automatics if I can. (yes, I know this is an OLD post but the info is still good)

Im sure EXXON will be pleased to hear of my engine swap too!!!!! I am going with holley double pumper initially and when I get more time, I will swap the induction to EFI, add electric fuel pump, and install an ECM. I have a few 1998 and 1999 chevy ECM's laying around and will probably wire one of them up to the 460. Its a pain doing all this work, but also fun at the same time. I ALSO HAVE A SALES PITCH HERE FOR THOSE WHO DO A LOT OF WIRING WORK!!!!! GO TO EBAY AND PURCHASE YOURSELF A FF310 SHORT TRACER!!! SPENDY BUGGER, (130-160) BUT YOU WILL QUICKLY FORGIVE YOURSELF AND LEARN TO LOVE THIS TOOL.!!!!

I have a 1971 F250 with 360 Fe will a 460 bolt up to the tranny?
Nope. 360/390/428 is FE. 351M/400 (335 series) and 429/460 (385 series) all same. 300 6 cyl/302/351W/351C all Windsor (aka small-block). There were supposedly some 400's with Windsor (small-block) bellhousing pattern, I've never seen one.
I have a good friend of our family that designed and make a plate.so a 460 will bolt to a small block pattern on atuomatic trans
I have a rebuilt 460 auto Trans that will solve your problem. I would let it go for $400. It's been completely gone through, powdercoated, chrome pan and new converter. Here is a pic. Call me David S. 479 739 2336
Will a 1991 460 hook up to my tranny in a 1999 f350
I am changing motor out in a 96 F250 4 wheel drive has the 5.8 in it and I'm looking to put a 7.5 in have a donor truck with everything in it the frame broke on it low mileage on the motor what all do I need to change
I have an 1982 Ford F-250 with a 5.8l with a 4speed trans. I want to see if I could put a 1972 Ford 460 in it
Yes you can. In fact L and L Products makes an entire 460 engine swap kit for that. Everything you need to put all your 351W components on the 460, like alternator ps pump etc. All you need beside their kit is a different bell housing from summit or jegs
