I have a 99 F250SD 4x4 Diesel w auto hubs. When using 4 High in the snow my rear wheels continually spin out on me both in Drive and reverse. Do I need yo lock in my hubs to have "4 wheel lock"?

Question type: General

$ wheel drive system is intermittent in 4x4 Low. Meaning at times it takes 2-4 attempts to get the 4 Low feature to hold. The first couple of times it tends to switch in and out even though it is set to 4 Low.
This is a part time vehicle that is now only used for hunting, camping, snow days and the occasional trip to the hardware store. Has 160,000 miles on it but for the last 8 years only gets driven 1-2,000 miles year.

The transfer shift motor maybe going, could be anywhere from 60.00 to 120.00, if you handy you can do it yourself...

I would change the oil in the transfer case. A lot of people forget about it when changing fluids. Exercising the T-case during the off season has worked well for me on my Fords which have more miles than yours.
