2006 Ford Taurus SE : Won't change into any gears... Could it be anything other then my transmission?

Asked by Lucie159 Oct 07, 2012 at 09:58 AM about the 2006 Ford Taurus SE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2006 Ford Taurus SE, yesterday without any previous warning while driving it down the
street it just wouldn't move anymore. My Fiance had it and said he was sitting at the light and when
he tried to pull off the RPM's shot up, and then it shook and wouldn't move. I know it is probably my
transmission, but since it's such a big ticket repair I was hoping someone could give me some hope
that it's something else. Checked the fluid, its full, tried to reset the sensors (heard that from some
other site) by undoing the battery. But nothing still... any suggestions would help. THANKS

Pull the pan replace the filter and fluid and while your there replace sensor mabye this will help. Look at the cables maybe something came loose.

I know this answer will not help because it sounds like the transmission like you said, meaning a trip to a reputable transmission shop (or any reputable mechanic). and they will want to sell you a rebuilt transmission, be sure to get a warranty in writing, they will probably want to swap out another as opposed to rebuilding yours. Sorry I don't have a better answer. It should have lasted longer than 6 years unless you are talking 100,000 miles or more. or has been abused somehow

How long have you owned the car and how many miles? If your fiance is the type to do burnouts or race then I would not bother with the filter and stuff but have him look to see if the selector cable is moving properly

It could be the drive belt i had a problem with my mustang that was the exactly the same in the end a trany rebuild or replacement is most likely ur solution. Sorry.:-(

Your tourque converter is stripped inside. Check the fluid level when running and when not. It should be different. If it is not then there is your problem
