My car engine started making this rough gruff long noise, I ignored it for three days but yesterday I came to a stop and put my car into reverse and immediatly my engine shut off.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

There was still power but pushing on
the gas the car wouldn't move
anywhere. I took the keys out and
restarted the car a few times, finally
the engine came back on and the car
moved foward. Drove on the highway
for a shopping center, the second I
pulled into my parking spot at the
center my car engine immediately
turned off and I ended up rolling into
my parking spot. Again I had to
restart the car a few times before the
power And engine would turn on,
finally got it to work and drove home
and again the second I started
coming to a stop my car engine shut
off. Also, along with the light
grumbling engine noise, there is a
high pitched sweeping noise. - I
opened the hood and it sounds like
the spinning belt thing is where some
of the noise is coming from. I'm a 17
and my dad is out of town so If there
is an easy way to fix this I'm
desperate!

Going by what you are saying sounds like a bearing on one of the accessories that the serpentine belt turns is seizing up. Not being there myself to listen and determine which one is can not tell you but mostly it turns out to be the idler pulley bearing or the belt tensioner bearing.
