what turns on the alternator light on a 2005 chevy 3500 express?

What turns on my alternator light on my chevy 3500 express?  Is there a fuse or relay?  
Also is there something that turns on my alternator switch?

No such thing as an "alternator switch". The light comes on when it has failed or is producing lower amperage it should be
