What can cause the pick up to not turn over?

Asked by arden Feb 04, 2021 at 11:17 AM about the 1995 Chevrolet S-10 LS Extended Cab RWD

Question type: General

I've replaced the timing chain tensioner, spark plugs, wires, ignition coils, fuel
pump and fuel filter. It doesn't start. Swings like it doesn't want to turn over.
Help please

make sure battery has a full charge and connections all good. you can use digital multimeter across battery posts, everything off, the generic spec for a full charge is 12.6 volts, if below that, get it charged up. You can leave leads touching battery posts, while helper turns key to crank, note the reading, how far does it drop or does it drop, at all? Generally it shouldn't drop below 9.6 volts. If it drops way down, that isn't going to work, whether it's the battery or whatever. Now, ig it cranks good but won't start, have a helper crank it while check for spark at the plugs-- use a gage and check proper fuel pressure and fuel injector pulse. Any applicable trouble codes?

Sometimes those years have ground issues, try hooking the negative half of a set of jumper cables to the negative post on the battery then the other end on a good ground on the block. This will show you if your starter is getting a bad ground.
