Will idle but won't take gas pedal

Asked by Jay Apr 14, 2019 at 02:05 AM about the 1996 Chevrolet S-10 RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My truck will idle sometimes smooth other
times a little rough. When gas pedal is
pressed motor immediately bogs down and
sounds like it's sucking a whole lot of air but
not enough fuel. I completely removed the
catalyst converter but it had already been
completely gutted and cleaned out. I
replaced the ignition control module, 1 coil,
throttle position sensor, and fuel filter. What
confuses me is that it's getting fuel to idle
and also getting enough fuel for you to
barely rest your foot in the pedal but not
enough to build  much speed. Please help

Fuel pressure could be to low. Try and do a fuel pressure test

Hey thanks, I've narrowed it down to either fuel pressure regulator or fuel pump although I was certain it was the throttle position sensor or some other sensor related to the accelerator pedal position since truck runs fine until you press gas pedal down and then it just shuts down as if you completely shut off all airflow or shut-off all fuel and it's just sucking air. Well unfortunately my 96 model s10 doesn't have a Schrader valve port to check the fuel pressure so I'll have to see if I can get the adapter that's for you to hookup the gauges to the fuel line at the inline fuel filter.
