If your plug wires are installed wrong then it will not run. Switching them out 180 degrees might very well make your engine run.
Ok what is happening is you keep missing the compression stroke when you bring # 1 up to TDC. This distributor has to be put in right on since there is no adjustment, it is locked into a certain position. You with me so far?
Yes but how do I know which stroke is compression stroke
Ok The easiest way is to have all the spark plugs out, and put a socket on the center bolt of the harmonic balancer, and rotate the engine clockwise. When you start seeing the timing mark coming up on the harmonic balancer get yourself in a position to be able to have a finger or thumb over #1 spark plug hole so you can feel pressure being force out of the hole. At this point all you have to do is put the timing mark on 0. I do believe that shroud is in the way for putting a strong arm and socket on the balancer tho. Questions?
Just thought of something, Did you have the distributor out?
Your gone for so long do I dare to continue? Are you going to be there?
No response, I will go on. You drop the dizzy in with #1 up on the compression stoke, TDC. #1 on the cap for a 4.3L is like at 8 0-clock position. When the dizzy is seated all the way down the rotor has to point at #1 on the distributor cap. You may have to move the oil pump shaft so it slides into the bottom of the dizzy to seat all the way down.
