Is the throttle body driven by cables from the pedal or by an electric motor? If it's electric, could be. If it's cable driven, push the gas pedal just a bit and see if anything changes. Oh... it's a '97 S-10, should be cables...

If its bad then it needs replaced but i doubt its why this is happening. Sounds like you need to test what is missing when it does this, try a fuel pressure test on it with key on in run but not started, you should see 55-62 psi, if it bleeds down quickly pinch off the return line halway, if it still leaks down you have a fuel pressure regulator problem, oh the test port is near the distributor on the 96 may be in same spot for the 97. Otherwise check if you have spark, or if injectors open or not. May can even pull it air induction boot off and spray some starter fluid in throttle body just to see if it cranks over.

Found this on the net for a 97 s10 blazer, may check it out, as it says you need 60psi fuel pressure so the 97 is different at least with the engine set up for this one I will post it below just copy & paste it to new browser window.

I know it says when cold and yours is when warm but there is some good info there if your problem ends up being fuel related.

I have a 97 Chevy S10 2.2, hard idle and surges, undrivable..it starts right up, but runs ragged. I replaced the idle control valve, no help. I bought a new throttle positioning sensor, but I cannot find out where it goes. Where is it located? Please.
