It could be charging at 14 volts but is alternator spiking? Put a volt meter to it and see! Or it could be a bad/loose ground.

My girl friend hooked up jumper cables backwards to try to start her 89chevy s-10 which has the4.3 liter engine. Now every thing is totally dead no power to anything. Could you please help me?
