I changed the ignition switch in a 1998 chevy s10

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I changed the ignition switch on a 1998 chevy s10.
When trying to start the truck, the security light
comes on. The truck will run for about 10 seconds
and then dies. We have tried to flip the key over
and wait 10 mins, we done that several times. It
continues to do the same thing. Is there something
that we are missing, or that can be done to fix the
truck and get it running?

It is not 4wd. It is just a regular s10
That 10 minute procedure, you do it 3 times for a total of 30 minutes. If you try that, use a battery charger on low charge so the battery doesn't run down. My info says you have passlock security system. It's the key tumbler that communicates with passlock sensor, not the key. The passlock sensor surrounds the tumbler, hope you didn't damage, anything. A common issue with passlock sensor is the wires to the sensor get loose. That's about all I know.
My friend lost his key to his 1998 2.2l 5 speed s10. So he decided to tear the whole ignition out of his truck. He also cut the main wires underneath the column trying to hot wire it. It will run for about 5 or so seconds then it will backfire really loud and wont start until the 6th or 7th time you try again. Ive tried multiple ways of wiring it and I can not get this truck to run. Can someone please give me an idea of how this can be resolved or if its even able to be fixed? Thank you!!! I touched the all red (thick) wire to the pink wire, whick makes fuel pump and gauges come on. Touched the (thin) yellow wire to the (thick) red and white truck turns over and starts for 5, 6 second every now and then. The backfire is really loud and I can see gas in the throttle body pretty good!
