best bet is to get a repair manual.
its a tight fit to remove starter , but most s-10 to get oil pan off you have to raise engine to provide room to remove pan

Disconnect battery, you need a jack stand and jack, once under truck of blazer same set up, youll see a big aluminum cover w two pole brackets plus 4 or 6 bolts on the sides of this cover. 13 or 15mm. Once cover is extracted. The full veiw of the starter will be avail, the driverside exaust looks like its in the way w some fenaggling you have a close tolerance but will drop out. Disconnect main battery feed from starter, remove purple trigger wire, some rotation of starter will be ness to do this 13mm on batt cable 1/4 or 5/16 on trigger ,oh on rigs that are factory complete have a small braket at the non bussiness end of starter 10mm nut. Removal of this bracket to complete extraction will be ness. Once out of way aim non bussiness end up toward block of engine and begin wiggling the starter out. YOU DID IT VICTORY IS YOURS!!! reverse to install. Clean up ,test, drink beer.
it is possible to remove it without taking apart anything else. It is a tight fit but I've done it multiple times. tommcmanis, a 98 doesn't have a removable torque converter cover.
what about a 1991 2.8 v6?
i have starter loose and all bolts out of torque cover or bell housing what ever is that all that is necessary
How can I remove and replace a started on a 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier
In order to do it have to jack up the trans up a little to get enough room to pull out starter. 13 mm for the big nut and 8mm for the small nut and 15mm for the bolts holding the starter in.
